Family Dollar murder suspect Lavere Bryant declared his innocence following a hearing in Dearborn District Court.

“I did not murder [the victims],” Bryant said as he left the courtroom.

Bryant was arraigned Wednesday in the fatal shootings of two Family Dollar employees.

The 34-year-old Dearborn man faces two counts of first degree murder, two counts of felony murder, one count unlawful imprisonment, one count armed robbery, and one count felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.

Police and prosecutors believe he is responsible for the deaths on July 15 of Brenna Machus and Joseph Orland.

Jamie Machus recognized his daughter’s alleged killer in court saying he worked there.

“I saw him and never thought anything else about it. He just worked there,” he said and was confirmed by Family Dollar.

In 1999, Bryant was convicted of breaking into a home and sexually abusing a woman. In 2001, he was convicted of assault to commit great bodily harm to a prostitute.

Bryant is being held without bond and is scheduled to be back on court on July 31.
