Orange is the New Black has been a hit on Netflix and has been confirmed for a Season 2.

The comedy-drama has premiered its first season on Netflix, an internet streaming media provider, on July 11, 2013, with 13 episodes. A second season was announced on June 27, 2013.

The story is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir Orange Is the New Black: My year in a Women’s Prison.

The first season revolves around the story of Piper (played by Taylor Schilling), who is sent to prison for carrying drug money for her former girlfriend, Alex. Piper encounters difficulties with prison life which involves issues such as race, class and mental health.

The comedic ways to tell the stories around Piper and her eccentric and outspoken inmates seems to be the key for the success of the comedy series.

The main cast features also Laura Prepon as Alex Vause; Michael J. Harney as Sam Healy; Michelle Hurst as Miss Claudette; Kate Muldrew as Galina ‘Red’ Reznikov and Jason Biggs as Larry Bloom.
